Associate Rep

Who am I?

Hello, I am Lexie and I joined SSAGO in September 2014. I have been a member of two clubs (Southampton and Kernow), attended 1 Witan, 4 Balls and 17 Rallies, and spent a year on Exec as Chair from 2019-20, so lots of you Associates probably know who I am.

Why do I want to run?

Associate Rep tends to be a role that no one knows anything about, and no one knows who the Associate Rep is, so that is something I wish to change. Just because we are all leaving SSAGO soon doesn't mean the Associate community can't be more active until that happens, as I presume most of you who are voting in this election ar probably planning on staying in SSAGO until at least the end of this academic year.

What do I want to do?

Considering I have been in SSAGO for 7 years ago now and (should have) graduated in 2020, I am a lot more active in SSAGO than I probably should be. However, I am hoping I can use this to the Associates advantage! Since being an Associate I have noticed there isn't any sort of community feel like the clubs and Indies have. Even though we are all from different clubs, this hasn't stopped the rest of National SSAGO from doing things online during the pandemic such as on Discord. Therefore, I would like to make the Associate community more of a thing, for example regular video call socials like the Indies have. Not only would these be a social thing, I feel they will help us work out how we can best support our clubs and National SSAGO as people will have the opportunity to share ideas with each other.

In addition to this, I feel regular social events with the Associates may help people to move on from SSAGO. As much as we all want to stay, sadly we all need to leave one day. As seen by the Old Gits around 5 years ago, they had their own Associate community and agreed a time together that they would be leaving SSAGO, and then went and formed their own SAGGA club together, the Nomads. Although I am not suggesting we set up a SAGGA club, having a group of people who are all planning on leaving SSAGO at the same time and planning on joining SAGGA may help people feel ready to do this.

Although I haven't yet attend many SAGGA events, I have joined SAGGA and am planning on going along to a couple of things. Hopefully I would be able to encourage other SSAGO Associates to give SAGGA a try too, allowing people to slowly stop attending SSAGO events and start attending SAGGA events instead.
